What do treatments feel like?

EXPECT

Burning, redness, warmth, and a sunburned sensation are normal responses following BBL treatments

The discomfort and redness generally last 2-4 hours after the procedure

Brown patches or spots will look darker and more pronounced immediately following BBL treatments

In 2-3 days, these brown areas become even darker and frequently feel scaly like coffee grounds on your skin. Within 1-2 weeks, these dark, scaly areas fall off and leave new, healthy skin behind. No matter how tempting, do not pick or scrub these brown spots. Let them come off on their own

Some patients will wake up with facial swelling, particularly around the eyes for several days following the treatment. This is normal and usually resolves within 3-5 days.

How to prepare for my appointment?
​
Avoid sun exposure and self tanner on areas to be treated for 4-6 weeks prior treatment. Sun exposure makes the laser treatment less effective and makes complications post-treatment more likely. Avoid retinols, hydroquinone (skin lightener), glycolic or AHA’s 10% or stronger and no waxing, for 3-5 days prior and 3-5 days post treatment. And any light sensitizing medication such as antibiotics for 7-10 days prior to treatment.
Be sure to wear sunscreen before and after treatment. Sunscreen use ensures that the delicate new skin is being protected and will help you maintain the best results. We should always wear sunscreen. Please avoid strenuous exercise and steam rooms immediately before and after your treatment.
Your comfort is our priority. Your eyes will be protected with safety goggles. Usually, there is no need for a topical anesthetic; however, your clinician may choose to use one when treating more sensitive areas. You may briefly feel a warm or quick snapping sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area.
If you are new to this treatment, please book a "Spot Treatment" at least 24 hours before your appointment (72 hours for skin type 5). We will spot test to ensure you do not negatively react.
